Activ Racing - Addiction Triumphs at the Warsash Spring Series

Following the final week’s racing on the Solent, Addiction secured her prestigious 1st place in IRC Class 2 of the 26th Warsash Spring Series.
After several weeks of racing and a clean sheet of first places, the team aboard Addiction moved into the closing race of the series knowing they had secured a trophy and, following a dramatic final race, Addiction took the title with a near perfect score, confirming their place as series winner of IRC Class 2. Following their spectacular accomplishment, the team were also awarded the Raymarine Trophy for Outstanding Acheivement by the organising committee.
Skipper, Tim Thubron says “This is a fantastic result for the team who have all worked really hard during the races and on the training days put in around the races. Addiction is one of my favourite boats and the new sails added mid-way through the series definitely sharpened the team’s competitive edge and I’m looking forward to working with Addiction and the team again.
The team are pictured above, with Christina Meehan accepting their award for Outstanding Achievement from Fiona Pankhurst of Raymarine at the Prize Giving on Friday 15th May 2009. With Winter Series beginning in October and the next year’s Spring Series starting on 14th March 2010, Addiction is now officially the boat to beat!

Dartmouth Week is the racing event of the annual Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta and the yacht racing takes place from 26th to 30th August 2009 starting with the Passage Race from Brixham on Wednesday 26th August 2009. The event dates from 1822 but only became a Royal Regatta following an unscheduled visit from Queen Victoria, Prince Albert and the Prince of Wales due to bad weather the day before the Regatta in 1856. In 1912 the Regatta was reduced to only 3 races, despite which, the largest and most important yachts in England took part. Between wars the Regatta grew and in 1947 changed its format to cater for the increasing numbers of smaller yachts.
The event has since then grown to become one of the leading sailing regattas in the country with more than 300 boats enjoying five days of racing. The town regatta has established a pre-eminence and now attracts thousands to watch live air displays including the Red Arrows and two spectacular fireworks displays.
